- Strumhabutz III Ausf. G Aug/Sept 1944 Production
Model
- Arnhem, Holland September 1944
-
- A Tamiya, DML, CMD, Model Kasten and Aber Frenzy in 1/35th scale.
-
- The build below is a very special build. It is the first of 15 StuG's and
StuH's that I will be building for the upcoming Military Minatures
in Review Modelers Guide to the Strumgeschutz
Published by Ampersand Publishing. You are getting a sneak peak at the model that
will adorn the cover of the book! The build will represent a StuH from the
battle for Arnhem/ Oosterbeek. Period photo's show these vehicles to be a very
early, late model StuH. They have 3 roof piltzen instead of 5 and they carried the
last of the zimmerit applied to StuGs. They also were missing roof top remote Mg's
and close in support weapons, but had all the fittings for them. They were equipped
with co-axial machine guns

Basic kit construction is complete. The CMD parts have been trimmed
and fit. 80% of the zimmerit has been applied. The roof piltzen have been
removed, and ones taken from the DML kit have be appiled in the earlier positions.
The Aber madness has also begun.

The late return rollers come from the DML kit. Unfortunatly the DML ones are too wide,
and when the width is corrected, they sit in too far to engage the guide horns, so I added
styrene tube over the pin, and drilled out the Tamiya hull accordingly. On the gun
assembly Some spare fret has been used to make the manlet cover attachment clips, parts of
the Aber set are visable, as well as an Aber 105mm barrel with out a muzzel brake.
Weld beads and texture have been added.

More progress with the Aber set. I have used the DML travel lock
inconjuncture with the Aber updates. The spring is 0.007 dia steel wire. The
barrel cleaning rods are from Elefant, and the clamp from Model Kasten.

The build is completed!
- 2/11/2006

Painting has begun. The kit was primed with Tamiya Flat Black as a
preshade, then the base coat of Tamiya Armor Yellow has been applied. Next step,
post shading.
- 4/21/2006

Back to work on this baby. Had to detour to build the new Tamiya
StuG IIIB and the DML IV E for MMiR. Here we have the base coat finished. I am
not going to post shade as the camo would hide it. The red brown is Tamiya , the
third pic shows post shading the red brown with the addition of some Tamiya Buff.
- 4/22/2006

Quick update. I have applied Vallejo light camo green. Next
step post shade the green.
- 5/4/2006

Update time again! I have jumped ahead and finished the post shade,
chipping, some dusting, chipped zim, filters, just a whole grab bag of stuff done and
still to do!
- 5/8/2006

Almost completed, just a few more details to attended to. I have been eyeing the
Custom Dioramics tram kit, I think this one may get a dio!
